Despite being one of our most popular models, the Yanmar SV26 went through some improvements.
The main change is seen in the tracks. As well as having a new design and more grip, they have increased in width from 250mm to 300mm. As well as improving manoeuvrability, these new tracks will also last longer. With 15% less ground pressure, wear will reduce as well as the potential for damages to the ground. The blade has also been widened to accommodate the wider tracks, as well as full ram guard protection on the bucket, dipper and arm cylinders.
Ammann released a new line of technologically advanced APF, forward travel plate compactors. These plates provide industry leading compaction output, manoeuvrability, travel speed and climbing ability. They have also had much work done to reduce unwanted vibration to operators.
These plates fit a broad range of applications, such as gardening, landscaping and road works.
We sold the first of our Pegasus roto telehandlers in September. This model the 40.25 went straight to a home building site complete with a winch and is fully remote controlled. This machine also features a powerful FPT 141 hp Turbocharged Diesel engine. Its 2-speed hydrostatic, 25 mph road speed gets it around to various locations quickly. The ATP (Anti Tipping Protection) safety feature along with stabilisers all around ensures both operator comfort and safety. The Pegasus 40.25 features a lifting capacity of 4000 kg with a 20.5 metre horizontal reach, making it ideal for most construction and building applications.
We supplied FM Conway another batch of Yanmar excavators throughout October. This most recent deal was made up of 6 tonne ViO57’s, 5 tonne ViO50’s, 2.5 tonne SV26’s and 1.5 tonne SV16’s. This is in addition to a similar set of machinery supplied in late 2016, on that occasion 8 tonne ViO80’s were also included.

The ARX26, which has an operating weight of 2.5 tonne, a drum width of 1200 mm and offers a centrifugal compaction force of 47KN had a successful year with many units being sold. In November more of these rollers left us to both end users and dealers. Users have commented on the great drum visibility as well as the electric drive lever ideal for work on asphalt jobs.
We now have stock of the upgraded Yanmar ViO33 and ViO38. These models are now -6 and join other models in being improved. These changes not only increase performance and productivity but also make the operating experience a much more comfortable one. Just a few of these improvements include: Higher lifting capacities, more stable undercarriage, new engine ECU, improved powerline, air suspension seat, more leg room, re-designed one piece door and much better maintenance access.
This week we have been putting steel tracks onto the SV100-2pb, before it heads off to it's new home.
All of our Yanmar excavators come with rubber crawlers as standard but there is the option to have them replaced by steel tracks.
More often than not the work done by mini excavators in the UK is more suited to rubber tracks, however occasionally steels may be better. Below you will see some reasoning behind the choice of tracks you require.
Rubber tracks are more affordable and offer a smoother, quieter and more stable ride for the operator. They are perfect for work on dirt or grass surfaces and of course when tracking over concrete and asphalt the most sensible choice.
If your work stays away from really rough terrain then rubber crawlers are the best option for you and they will always give high levels of traction.
Adding steel tracks will increase the ground contact as they are wider, however not necessarily much heavier. In the case of the SV100-2pb just an extra 50kg is added to the over all weight.
These tracks are for machines working regularly in abrasive conditions and inclined terrains. They have good climbing ability and travel over rocks and large stones easier, for example when working on demolition sites steel tracks would be the best option.
Users with steel tracks often operate larger excavators where these benefits are more applicable.
VICTAS or ViO Crawler Technology for Advanced Stability gives machines in the zero tail swing range improved stability and lifting strength, without the need for an expanding undercarriage.
It works by combining the following:
1. Enlarging the bearing surface through the track width.
Yanmar enlarge the tracks width in order to increase the ground bearing surface, this also lowers the machines centre of gravity. Thus remaining compact, stable and with strong lifting capacity.
The more conventional approach of simply adding a counterweight will drastically affect the compactness of the machines, especially on a zero tail swing model.
2. Enlarging the bearing surface thanks to the track shape.
Yanmar also use asymmetric or offset tracks, which pushes the bearing point further towards the outside of the machine (as shown in the image) The conventional more central bearing point makes the centre of gravity higher and the machine less stable when lifting.
Finally the pitches used in the tracks are shorter than many others. As the double flanged Yanmar rollers move over these pitches the operator will find that; crawler damage, vibration, noise and ground damage all are reduced.
Overall if you are looking for an excavator with increased lifting strength and stability, whilst still remaing compact and quiet then a Yanmar with patented VICTAS system is the one for you.

The Cormidi C60 is a high performance and highly reliable tracked carrier.
Measuring just 695mm wide it passes through standard doors, additionally with the longest undercarriage (1320mm) and highest discharge height (1675mm at pivot) in it's class its not hard to see why this machine proves incredibly popular.
The C60, with a Yanmar LA electric start engine (7.5hp) and top travelling speed of 2.3mph moves over uneven or wet ground even when fully loaded.
This is aided by the innovative 'rocking rollers', where the middle two rollers along the bottom oscillate allowing the tracks to ride over stones or brick whilst still keeping the load stable and giving the operator a safe ride.
Pete Barfield, a sales manager at A&Y recently towed a Cormidi C60 to a customer, he commented on the ease of doing this due to the four well placed tie down points. The weight of the Cormidi (600kg) meant that fuel consumption wasn't drastically affected either.
