The second part of our annual review concentrates on July - December which included the small matters of a re-brand and new excavator line!
Thank you from everyone at Molson Compact Equipment for your support during 2018. Let's hope 2019 brings more success for everyone.
Hands up who spotted the Dieci telehandlers working at European race tracks over the summer? Twelve Zeus 37.7s and Dedalus 30.7s were on hand not only to help with race week setups but also to clear up after any unfortunate accidents. We watched an early collision in one race, in the space of a few minutes, the Zeus 37.7 machine positioned in the escape route, at the exit of the corner, hitched up and carried off the two cars, while marshals removed dangerous fragments from the track.
Plant Hire firm, Plantforce, added a number of Dieci Apollo 25.6R telehandlers into their growing fleet. The Apollo 25.6R a model specifically spec’d for hire work and suiting the requirements of Plantforce. Further options were added to these machines to make them ready for hire. This included; green flashing beacons, radio systems and reverse camera kits. All of which was fitted by our engineers.
We supported the Molson Group stand at the APF forestry show by having a Bergmann 4010 tracked dumper on the demo plot. This 10 tonne, tracked dumper with a rotating skip and fully turning operators platform is perfect for use on large outdoor jobs such as forestry work. Features such as: low ground pressure, powerful engine and a large comfortable cab, make it it particularly suited to this work.
*Hello Molson Compact Equipment LTD*
In line with the current evolution of the Molson Group, we re-branded as Molson Compact Equipment LTD in October this year. This meant our site just outside of Stratford-upon-Avon, became the Molson Group ‘Centre of Excellence’ for all compact plant equipment.
Molson Compact Equipment Managing Director, Robert Brown said of the changes “Being the centre of excellence will involve us being responsible for the processing of Sales, Parts, Servicing, Storage and PDI for the Molson Group compact ranges. Whilst still offering ongoing Yanmar parts and service support”
A big part of the re-brand is the addition of Kobelco mini excavators to the Molson Compact offering. These excavator models, from 1-10 tonne, perfectly complement the existing lines of Ammann, Dieci, Bergmann and Cormidi plant machinery. Models including the 1 tonne, SK10SR-2, 2.8 tonne SK28SR-6, 7 tonne SK75SR-3 and 8 tonne SK85MSR-3 all started going through our workshop in Novemeber.
A group of Molson Compact staff, as well as current and prospective customers took a trip to the Bergmann factory in Meppen, Germany. It was great to see how these high quality dumpers are put together and the build quality along each step of production. Also on site was the car part manufacturing area, where Bergmann produce manifolds for Porsche and Ferrari.
The below is taken from a recent article on Molson Compact Equipment, available in the latest issue of Construction Plant News
Molson Compact Equipment might be a new name in the mini excavator sector, but there’s a very experienced team behind it.
A change of name, a change of colour – but the same expertise in compact plant, the Warkwickshire-based firm is now looking forward to a new association with a Japanese construction plant maker. This Midlands base will become the Molson Group ‘Centre of Excellence’ for all compact plant equipment. With the heavy line Kobelco series remaining at the Molson Group HQ in Avonmouth.
“Kobelco already has a very good reputation on some of its larger kit, with the likes of Plantforce heavily investing in them for their fleet, for example, and we’re looking to build that brand recognition for the smaller excavators,” explains Mike Brown.
Kobelco machines already have a reputation for being quite highly spec’d, with air con and a radio available in the cab as standard from 3-tonne SK28 and above, for instance, and that’s complemented by a genuine appreciation of a smooth and quiet operation.
In addition, Molson Compact Equipment can now boast a number of solutions that were not previously part of its portfolio, including a 1.7 tonne machine with an expanding and retractable track that can be specified with either a cab or canopy, whilst the SK10, 1 tonne machines benefits from servo control.
As well as that, the iNDr system on the Kobelco minis is a welcome feature for mini operators. This noise and dust reduction system features a filter fitted in front of the cooling system, removing minute dust particles from the intake air. It’s easy to remove from cleaning and, for anyone in the business of working in dusty environments, will be a potential game-changer.
Similarly, the man, or woman, in the driving seat, of the SK85 will welcome the additional space of a cab which is the equivalent in size to the same manufacturer’s 14 tonne unit. A side and rear camera system is fitted as standard, whilst the machine’s in-built Komex telematics system provides invaluable data on hours worked, fuel usage, and location, all in real time, and a particularly useful function for hirers.
Indeed, the majority of maintenance and regular service tasks can be achieved at ground level, whilst Kobelco machines from 4 tonne upwards, are also pre-piped for hydraulic quick hitches, which saves huge amounts of time in the workshop.
“We very excited about taking on the Kobelco brand and building it in the UK,” concludes Mike. “The whole team here, from the workshop to parts and sales, are very experienced already, and with the mini excavator sector seeing expansion there is a real opportunity with these machines.”

This week we had more Yanmar excavators heading up North of the border to Scotland. This increases the 2018 numbers of machines sold into the country, making it the best start to a year we've had in Scotland.
The latest load show above consisted of; 1 tonne SV08's, the cabbed SV18 with expanding tracks and the ever popular and reliable SV26.
A&Y's Area Manager, Peter Barfield commented "it's a really positive start to the year for Yanmar in Scotland, with a good range of machines now working in hire fleets and with dealers. We have had some great enquires for Ammann compaction and also our Dieci telehandlers so expect more machines leaving us for Scotalnd soon"
Below you can see machines delivered in January set in a very snowy scene. For more information on our sales, parts and servicing please Contact Us today.
In the second part of our annual review we take a look at the highlights between July - December.

Have a great New Year and see you in 2018!
Despite being one of our most popular models, the Yanmar SV26 went through some improvements.
The main change is seen in the tracks. As well as having a new design and more grip, they have increased in width from 250mm to 300mm. As well as improving manoeuvrability, these new tracks will also last longer. With 15% less ground pressure, wear will reduce as well as the potential for damages to the ground. The blade has also been widened to accommodate the wider tracks, as well as full ram guard protection on the bucket, dipper and arm cylinders.
Ammann released a new line of technologically advanced APF, forward travel plate compactors. These plates provide industry leading compaction output, manoeuvrability, travel speed and climbing ability. They have also had much work done to reduce unwanted vibration to operators.
These plates fit a broad range of applications, such as gardening, landscaping and road works.
We sold the first of our Pegasus roto telehandlers in September. This model the 40.25 went straight to a home building site complete with a winch and is fully remote controlled. This machine also features a powerful FPT 141 hp Turbocharged Diesel engine. Its 2-speed hydrostatic, 25 mph road speed gets it around to various locations quickly. The ATP (Anti Tipping Protection) safety feature along with stabilisers all around ensures both operator comfort and safety. The Pegasus 40.25 features a lifting capacity of 4000 kg with a 20.5 metre horizontal reach, making it ideal for most construction and building applications.
We supplied FM Conway another batch of Yanmar excavators throughout October. This most recent deal was made up of 6 tonne ViO57’s, 5 tonne ViO50’s, 2.5 tonne SV26’s and 1.5 tonne SV16’s. This is in addition to a similar set of machinery supplied in late 2016, on that occasion 8 tonne ViO80’s were also included.
A&Y’s Area Sales Manager, Peter Ayres said “it’s fantastic to be associated with innovative and ever growing companies like FM Conway. This latest order shows their loyalty to both the Yanmar and A&Y brands.”
The ARX26, which has an operating weight of 2.5 tonne, a drum width of 1200 mm and offers a centrifugal compaction force of 47KN had a successful year with many units being sold. In November more of these rollers left us to both end users and dealers. Users have commented on the great drum visibility as well as the electric drive lever ideal for work on asphalt jobs.
We now have stock of the upgraded Yanmar ViO33 and ViO38. These models are now -6 and join other models in being improved. These changes not only increase performance and productivity but also make the operating experience a much more comfortable one. Just a few of these improvements include: Higher lifting capacities, more stable undercarriage, new engine ECU, improved powerline, air suspension seat, more leg room, re-designed one piece door and much better maintenance access.
Here at A&Y Equipment we are always looking for stories about our machines. Whether it be working on an exiting job, special location or just doing it's daily work, we want to know about it.
As well as having thousands of followers across our website and social media channels, we also have a close working relationship with the marketing departments of all 4 of our suppliers. For example stories we have written recently have been used on the websites of Yanmar and Ammann, as well as in their own customer magazines and in national UK magazines. A great way to promote your business for free!
If you have pictures, videos and information about any Ammann, Yanmar, Dieci or Cormidi product please send it across to firstname.lastname@example.org and we can use it.

Below are examples of machine sales we've promoted
A&Y Equipment are delighted to announce that Machine Serve have been appointed to sell Ammann compaction, Yanmar Construction, Dieci Construction and Cormidi tracked carriers throughout Somerset, Devon and Cornwall.
Based in Devon, Machine Serve has been providing excellent sales, parts and servicing for a number of construction and agricultural brands since 2003.
A&Y Key Accounts Manager, Peter Ayres is excited to start working with Machine Serve, he commented on the professional setup they have and knows their previous experiences in this sector will mean they excel in providing the full sales and services package across the range.
From their previous 14 years’ experience selling Dieci telehandlers, already Machine Serve have had enquires for large Pegasus 360°rotating telehandlers. This is on top of completing a deal for a zero tail swing Yanmar ViO25 and a Cormidi C50 tracked dumper. An impressive return just a few days into this new relationship.
A&Y's Marketing manager has also praised Phil Davey and his Machine Serve team saying how they have gone 'above and beyond' already in helping put together a Dieci related information guide.
Machine Serve have a strong online presence socially, with very active Facebook, Twitter and YouTube accounts (go on give them a follow!) www.machineserve.co.uk
With a large stock order already placed we are looking forward to working with Machine Serve and increasing the volume of our machines working in the South West.
This week we assisted our dealers, Phoenix Hire & Sales at a Safety and Health awareness day being held in Swansea.
The aim of this event was to not only raise awareness of key health and safety issues facing the construction industry but also give practical advice on how to avoid risks on sites. Particularly in relation to the interface between people and plant/transport.
As part of the display Phoenix showed an Ammann ARR1575 trench roller and a 5 tonne Yanmar ViO50-6 excavator. These machines were chosen as they both have a number of key benefits that makes the operator and surrounding site safer.
Some of the safety related benefits of these two models are as follows:
Forth Plant & Sons, are a Plant & Tool Hire company covering central Scotland for all your DIY and project hire needs. This family run business have been going for over 25 years and have more than 100 pieces of machinery for hire.
This week they have added a Yanmar SV08 micro excavator into their fleet. Sold through our dealers in Scotland, Ness Plant of Kinross.
The SV08 is the smallest machine in our Yanmar range, but despite its weight of 1 tonne it still offers a powerful output. Ideal for use in landscaping, indoor renovation, housing foundations and pipe laying. A key factor that makes this machine so well suited to these fields is mobility; expandable track width (680mm – 840 mm) allows the SV08 to travel through tight spaces, such as doors but also aids stability when digging.
Grant Sleith, MD of Forth Plant & Sons told us that this machine will prove to be very popular, the versatility given by such a small machine will mean it becomes the ideal choice for jobs in small inaccessible areas.
Already it looks like the SV08 is out working, in conjunction with some Ammann APF1240 plates also ran by Forth Plant & Sons.
With the days getting longer and sun making a more regular appearance then these micro diggers are getting very popular. For more information, including pricing give us a call on 01789 414525.
We are pleased to announce a new dealer for the complete range of Ammann compaction, Yanmar construction and Cormidi products. Based in Bury St Edmunds, Broadway Machinery will be covering Norfolk and Suffolk for all products, including all after sales services.

A&Y Key Accounts Manager Chris Beckingsale is excited to start working with Broadway Machinery, he praised the setup they have and knows their previous experiences in this sector will mean they excel in providing the full sales and services package.
The partnership has begun well with at the time of writing this already two machines sold. One Ammann ARX12 tandem roller and a zero tails swing, 8 tonne ViO80-1. A great start and the sign of more to come.
