The second part of our annual review concentrates on July - December which included the small matters of a re-brand and new excavator line!
Thank you from everyone at Molson Compact Equipment for your support during 2018. Let's hope 2019 brings more success for everyone.
Hands up who spotted the Dieci telehandlers working at European race tracks over the summer? Twelve Zeus 37.7s and Dedalus 30.7s were on hand not only to help with race week setups but also to clear up after any unfortunate accidents. We watched an early collision in one race, in the space of a few minutes, the Zeus 37.7 machine positioned in the escape route, at the exit of the corner, hitched up and carried off the two cars, while marshals removed dangerous fragments from the track.
Plant Hire firm, Plantforce, added a number of Dieci Apollo 25.6R telehandlers into their growing fleet. The Apollo 25.6R a model specifically spec’d for hire work and suiting the requirements of Plantforce. Further options were added to these machines to make them ready for hire. This included; green flashing beacons, radio systems and reverse camera kits. All of which was fitted by our engineers.
We supported the Molson Group stand at the APF forestry show by having a Bergmann 4010 tracked dumper on the demo plot. This 10 tonne, tracked dumper with a rotating skip and fully turning operators platform is perfect for use on large outdoor jobs such as forestry work. Features such as: low ground pressure, powerful engine and a large comfortable cab, make it it particularly suited to this work.
*Hello Molson Compact Equipment LTD*
In line with the current evolution of the Molson Group, we re-branded as Molson Compact Equipment LTD in October this year. This meant our site just outside of Stratford-upon-Avon, became the Molson Group ‘Centre of Excellence’ for all compact plant equipment.
Molson Compact Equipment Managing Director, Robert Brown said of the changes “Being the centre of excellence will involve us being responsible for the processing of Sales, Parts, Servicing, Storage and PDI for the Molson Group compact ranges. Whilst still offering ongoing Yanmar parts and service support”
A big part of the re-brand is the addition of Kobelco mini excavators to the Molson Compact offering. These excavator models, from 1-10 tonne, perfectly complement the existing lines of Ammann, Dieci, Bergmann and Cormidi plant machinery. Models including the 1 tonne, SK10SR-2, 2.8 tonne SK28SR-6, 7 tonne SK75SR-3 and 8 tonne SK85MSR-3 all started going through our workshop in Novemeber.
A group of Molson Compact staff, as well as current and prospective customers took a trip to the Bergmann factory in Meppen, Germany. It was great to see how these high quality dumpers are put together and the build quality along each step of production. Also on site was the car part manufacturing area, where Bergmann produce manifolds for Porsche and Ferrari.
In the past month we have seen a big upturn in sales on the Ammann ATR30 Rammer. In fact we only have the last few units in stock now.
It's lightweight design, narrow foot and slim shape make this rammer an ideal fit for contractors who often work in tight spaces or on jobs that require precise compaction. Therefore it's no surprise that many of these rammers have been sold to firms using them on cabling jobs.
One company that has had success with the ATR 30 is CK Civils, an engineering groundworks contractor working in and around the London/Kent region.
We visited them on site working their ATR30 and here's what we found:
They currently have 20 men employed installing ducting and infrastructure for Virgin Media's fibre optic cabling roll out.
Feedback we received on this visit and also from other customers echo's the same reasons why the ATR30 is proving an essential tool:

The Ammann ARX26 tandem roller, which has an operating weight of 2.5 tonne, a drum width of 1200 mm and offers a centrifugal compaction force of 47KN, has been one of the most popular rollers sold throughout 2018.
Today we pick out just a few of the reasons why your next 120 roller should be an ARX26.
The machine is designed to provide the operator with exceptional drum views, making the work close to obstacles and obstructions far easier.
When operating on soil and particularly asphalt then a smooth stop and start is essential, in order to not leave marks on the surface. The ARX 26 comes with an electric drive lever as standard allowing for smooth operation and full control of the machines speed. This lever is found on all tandem rollers across the ARX range and is widely regarded as the best drive lever on the market.
You will find on the lever the control for the vibration and sprinkler system, allowing the user full control from these functions from one lever.
The operators platform, including the seat, steering column, travel lever and floor are isolated from vibration. Being situated on a specific vibration reducing mounts has led the ARX 26 to having the lowest hand arm vibration levels for rollers this size. Making longer work shifts more comfortable which should in turn increase overall productivity.
Also situated on the operators platform is the throttle, with it's three positions, Low Idle (900 rpm), Work (2100 rpm) and High Power (2400 rpm). This allows the rollers to vibrate at different frequencies, creating different centrifugal forces, depending on the material being compacted.
You will find these rollers in a number of hire fleets across the country and one piece of feedback we often receive is how the latest models larger water tank has aided users. This allows longer work periods before having to re fill the tank. A clear gauge shows the current water levels and a large opening aids fast drainage.
Each drum on the ARX26 comes with an easily adjustable scraper bar as well as jets for the sprinkler system. Scrapers not only keep the drum clean of material build up, they also hold the water in between the scraper and the drum to keep it lubricated, essential when working with asphalt.

Working Where Others Can't
The Ammann add-on compactors fit onto excavators, utilising their reach to compact in hard-to-access places such as deep, narrow trenches and particularly steep grades. They also can provide more power than most other compaction machines for such applications. The compactors offer up to one meter compaction depth per layer and will also work on slopes where commonly found compactors would fail.
The APA range of compactors has a model suited for all excavators from 2 - 40 tonnes and are commonly found working on sites such as: Pipeline construction, Residential and industrial developments, Backfill works, Confined work spaces, Slope and hillside compaction, Cable construction, Dumpsite construction and Rail way construction for example.
What sets the Ammann Add on Compactors apart?
THE RIGHT FIT
Ammann Add-On Compactors are compatible with all standard adapters on the market. The Ammann quick coupling system allows the add-on to be connected and ready for action within seconds.
ROBUST MACHINE DESIGN
The compactor housing protects the central exciter unit. Bushings shield the housing from the vibrations and prevent metal-on-metal contact under extremely high pressure.
PATENTED VIBRATION LIMITATION SYSTEM
The patented vibration limitation system directs forces toward the ground and away from the machine. In addition, highly durable rubber shock mounts absorb the vibration to protect the excavator and ultimately the operator.
NO MAINTENANCE WORRIES
The add-on compactors are hydraulic and require no separate power source. There is little maintenance and, given the few moving parts, repair needs rarely surface.
From the comfort and safety of the excavator cab, the operator can turn the add-on compactor at angles that would be impossible with walk-behind rollers.

The Ammann APF 15/40 plate compactor is a high performing compaction tool in both soil and asphalt applications.
Operators who have used this plate compactor have praised the machine for its; versatility, reduced hand-arm vibration and low sound levels.
The APF 15/40 is one of five, APF Ammann vibratory plates that provide industry-leading compaction power, manoeuvrability, forward-moving speed and climbing ability.
An optional Vulcolan mat, which can be installed without a single tool, provides quick adjustment when working with paving stones. Also a quick, tool-less attach, water sprinkling system enables work on asphalt.
The plate’s technologically advanced exciter unit is maintenance free, with cylindrical bearings that reduce wear. The exciter system also provides significant forward-moving power to enhance productivity in challenging materials and on steep grades. One user also commented how much quieter the APF 15/40 is when compared to previous plate compactors used on site. Yet despite this reduction in noise he also commented how compaction goals are met even quicker than before.
An online machinery/equipment guide has reviewed one of our Ammann trench rollers, the ARR1575. This particular model is fully remote controlled, with a central articulation joint, which also oscillates to follow the ground, therefore reducing the risk of tipping over.
The review is as follows:
The Ammann ARR 1575 Tier 4 Final Roller overcomes high moisture content in cohesive soils and clays while consuming less fuel than its predecessors.
The trench roller utilises a Yanmar 3TNV80F engine that meets the strictest emissions requirements in Europe and the U.S. The engine also provides excellent power and features reductions in noise and vibration.
Trench rollers, also called multi-purpose compactors, perform well in cohesive soil types, such as clays, that can be difficult to compact. The ARR 1575 is able to overcome the high moisture content in clays through its extreme compaction energy and the kneading effect of the padfoot drums.
The machine performs effectively and quickly on less challenging soils, too. The trench roller’s performance makes it productive in many applications, including pipeline construction; commercial, residential and industrial development; structure backfill work; confined workspaces; airport construction; electric and cable installation; dumpsite and landfill jobsites; and road sub-bases.
Productivity can be improved with the use of extension kits that stretch drum widths from 640 to 850 mm. The adjustment can be completed quickly on the jobsite.
Key features include:
The infrared system. It is perfectly positioned with no dead angles. Integrated solar panels charge the transmitter, eliminating one jobsite task.
Easy access to service points. The hood opens wide to help the crew and technicians reach the desired service points and components.
Effective vibratory system. A low centre of gravity ensures the compaction vibration reaches its target. Also enabling effectiveness are a circular vibrator and 2 amplitude settings.
Two steering cylinders. They enable powerful and fast articulation and help make the ARR 1575 responsive and precise.
Articulation joint with oscillation. The maintenance-free joint helps provide optimal ground contact and compaction results. The oscillation in the articulation joint also reduces the chances of tipping.
Ammann ARX Heavy Tandem rollers provide all of the features and benefits that ultimately lead to cost savings for the owners.
The ARX models feature articulated steering, with both the cab and engine compartment fitted to the front frame. These machines are commonly found on jobsites including; transport links and airport construction as well as all manner of urban construction sites such as housing estates.
"Ammann Tandem rollers provide operator comfort and easy adjustment of the amplitude and frequency"
Further reasons models like the ARX90 and ARX110 are so popular around the globe includes:
Last year Ammann released the ART 35 T4i, a light, pivot-steered pneumatic tyred roller.
With an operating weight of 3200 kg, the ART 35 T4i is the lightest pneumatic roller in the Ammann lineup. The machine design is compact, with a length of 3260 mm and a width of 1540 mm. The design provides stability, manoeuvrability and ground access to service points.
The pneumatic tyres make it productive on diverse materials, particularly those that require a “kneading” effect to aid compaction and the sealing of asphalt surfaces. The roller utilises two axles, each with four tyres, and a wide steering angle for the ultimate in manoeuvrability, even in tight spaces. The machine utilises synchronized steering of the front and rear axle for easy operation and precise surface coverage
An oil-cooled Deutz engine meets interim emissions standards while providing the necessary power. The engine is efficient and quiet.
The ART 35 T4i features intuitive control and handling, helping even unskilled operators be productive. Control switches are installed on the dashboard in front of the operator, making them easy to see and reach. A sliding operator seat boosts comfort and visibility.
A three-stage filtration system with a large water tank extends intervals between fillings, helping the roller keep pace on asphalt paving jobs. A double-drive lever provides smooth starts and stops – also essential when working on asphalt.
All service points are easy to access. A reduction in service points adds even more time-saving convenience.
Applications include small- and medium-sized compaction jobsites, road construction projects and industrial sites.
