This week we assisted our dealers, Phoenix Hire & Sales at a Safety and Health awareness day being held in Swansea.
The aim of this event was to not only raise awareness of key health and safety issues facing the construction industry but also give practical advice on how to avoid risks on sites. Particularly in relation to the interface between people and plant/transport.
As part of the display Phoenix showed an Ammann ARR1575 trench roller and a 5 tonne Yanmar ViO50-6 excavator. These machines were chosen as they both have a number of key benefits that makes the operator and surrounding site safer.
Some of the safety related benefits of these two models are as follows:
Last week we spent an afternoon with Cooper Surfacing, as part of some filming being carried out by Ammann.
Cooper Surfacing are a multi disciplined Civil Engineering and Groundworks family business, specialising in not only Machine Lay Asphalt and Tar but many forms of groundwork including; Concrete, Block Paving, Drainage & Landscaping throughout Warwickshire and the West Midlands area.
They currently run an Ammann vibratory plates as well as an ARX20 tandem roller.
MD Robert Cooper told us how the APF1033 is the ideal plate for the work they do. The lightweight nature and maneuverability make compacting in tight areas easier. They also like how its an easy lift to put back into the van and told us they find the compaction levels very high and even for a plate that size, especially when compared to competing brands.
The ARX20 roller is a light, articulated machine, with a 1 metre wide drum, that delivers optimal compaction results through its double drive and double vibration systems.
A big plus for asphalt and groundworkers using this roller is that it works flush up against curbs and other obstructions. The operator also has excellent visibility from the work station, not only to the drums but also all around the machine. Both key benefits raised by Cooper Surfacing.
The electric drive-lever makes for smooth starting and stopping and is another the reasons the roller is popular. Other operator benefits include a rubber-mounted platform that limits vibration, a reliable Yanmar engine and large water tank capacities.
We will be bringing you footage from the filming showing off the working capabilities of these machines soon.
From one through to ten tonnes, our Yanmar excavators fit in to all manner of urban and rural jobsites.
The Yanmar company holds 3 key, core values that they adhere too everytime a machine is produced in the French or Japanese factories. These are; Reliability, Efficiency and Innovation.
Below you will find a number of key advantages to the Yanmar construction equipment ranges.

The ARW65, Ammann's walk behind roller, combines two application within one machine.
The operator can choose between a high amplitude setting for working on gravel and soil based surfaces, or a low amplitude setting for usage on asphalt and bituminous material.
The ARW 65 features scrapers on both drums and a 60-litre water tank with sprinkler system to ensure the machine is ready to handle bituminous surfaces when called upon.
Edge work - The ARW65 offers clearance on both sides of the drum, allowing compaction work up to curbstones, walls and other obstacles. Therefore no extra work on edges is required, saving precious time.
Smooth operation - Each machine is fitted with a hydraulic drive, ensuring variable speed adjustment and smooth starting/braking actions.
Minimal maintenance - The walk behind rollers are built without mechanical fast-wearing parts such as V belts and a clutch, helping reduce maintenance time.
Safety - The guide handle includes the 'dead mans handle' which immediately shuts off the machine if the operator releases their grip. When in reverse mode the roller's speed limit is set to 2.5km/h as a safety regulation to protect workers.

We can today reveal that all of the Ammann 1575 trench rollers will now come with the latest tier 4 final engines as standard. This reliable Yanmar engine is compliant with the latest environmental engine standards.
These latest models of trench roller will be known as the ARR1575, replacing the RW1575. This is the only difference between models though and the other features and benefits that make this particular machine a winner of the Red Dot award for design do remain.
The ARR 1575 is the model featuring an articulation joint with oscillation, providing perfect ground contact and optimal compaction results. The oscillation feature also increases safety by reducing the chances of tipping and it's infrared remote control has an auto stop if the operator gets too close or far away from the roller.
The Trench roller and its padfoot drum provide results, even where other compactors have failed. Its ability to work in cohesive soils can prevent the need for soil removal and replacement, providing a significant financial impact.
Further Highlights include:
The SV18, our 2 tonne, cabbed, Yanmar mini excavator has had a change of look to make it more modern.
A re-design of the rear and boom plus change of decals has brought the SV18 in line with the recent changes to some of the larger excavators, such as the ViO50-6.
This model, part of the semi zero tail swing or SV range is a machine with expandable tracks from 980 mm to 1320 mm, making it more stable and versatile than most machines in this weight class. Easily transportable on a trailer or a utility vehicle thank to its reduced dimensions, with excellent traction forces for an excavator of this weight class, the SV18 is a highly efficient machine.
Also equipped with hydraulic Load-Sensing flow sharing, variable flow piston pump, with a dual or single-action auxiliary circuit fitted to arm end, the SV18 is a versatile mini-excavator able to support many tasks in very different places from very narrow areas to big sized work sites.
The SV18 furthermore results from a successful combination of the engine and the hydraulic system which enables to reduce fuel consumption, increase productivity and reduce exhaust fumes.
A very popular machine, particularly north of the border in Scotland we have them in stock now with options for finance readily available.

Forth Plant & Sons, are a Plant & Tool Hire company covering central Scotland for all your DIY and project hire needs. This family run business have been going for over 25 years and have more than 100 pieces of machinery for hire.
This week they have added a Yanmar SV08 micro excavator into their fleet. Sold through our dealers in Scotland, Ness Plant of Kinross.
The SV08 is the smallest machine in our Yanmar range, but despite its weight of 1 tonne it still offers a powerful output. Ideal for use in landscaping, indoor renovation, housing foundations and pipe laying. A key factor that makes this machine so well suited to these fields is mobility; expandable track width (680mm – 840 mm) allows the SV08 to travel through tight spaces, such as doors but also aids stability when digging.
Grant Sleith, MD of Forth Plant & Sons told us that this machine will prove to be very popular, the versatility given by such a small machine will mean it becomes the ideal choice for jobs in small inaccessible areas.
Already it looks like the SV08 is out working, in conjunction with some Ammann APF1240 plates also ran by Forth Plant & Sons.
With the days getting longer and sun making a more regular appearance then these micro diggers are getting very popular. For more information, including pricing give us a call on 01789 414525.
Ardent Hire Solutions, one of the largest providers of self-drive plant in the UK and A&Y Equipment Ltd, the UK & Ireland importer for Ammann compaction machinery, have just signed a new deal to supply over 100 new Ammann rollers in a deal worth upwards of £4 million.
These machines will update and compliment an existing fleet of Ammann rollers located throughout Ardent’s 14 national depots.
This particular deal is made up with a range of compaction machines, including trench rollers, light tandem rollers and single drum self-propelled rollers.
The trench rollers will be the latest model of Rammax 1575, completely remote controlled with an articulating and oscillating central joint, which gives permanent ground contact and much better stability. In fact this machine won the prestigious Red Dot award for design in 2016 and is a consistent high performer on jobsites across the world.
Three versions of ARX tandem rollers are included in this order. Ranging from the smallest 80 cm drum width ARX12, 120 cm ARX26 up to the ARX45 with a 138 cm drum width and compaction output of 55 kN.
All of the ARX rollers give the operator excellent, unobstructed views to the drums, with two frequency settings and centrifugal forces available. An electronic drive lever allows for smooth starts and stops, which is ideal for working on asphalt. These tandem rollers are built with high quality and long lasting components. They’re widely known to be reliable, economical, safe and fuel efficient, with the lowest Hand Arm Vibration figures of tandem rollers this size.
The largest machines in the order are the 17 tonne ASC170, which deliver industry leading compaction outputs via its advanced vibratory and amplitude systems. In fact this model out performs most machines from heavier weight categories. Despite the size and weight of these rollers exceptional traction and climbing ability is still achieved through Ammann’s no rear wheel axle concept. This lowers the centre of gravity for the machine and also makes it more stable as well as improving manoeuvrability and service access.
The same concept is found of the remaining rollers Ardent have purchased, the ASC110 and ASC70. Like all Ammann rollers these are created with the operator’s comfort at the forefront of thinking. Not only is optimal visibility gained but also the work stations are; comfortable, vibration and sound reduced, on top of having an easy to use multifunctional display providing essential operating information.
The ASC70 rollers will be the first in the UK to have the very latest in Tier4 final engine technology. Making this 7 tonne roller even more efficient whilst not affecting its high compaction outputs and work speed.
Ardent’s Commercial Director, Tom Gleeson said “We chose Ammann due to their market leading products driven by innovative design. For example, by Ammann introducing their articulating and oscillating central joint on the trench roller, we are able to provide our customers with greater safety specification and a solution to machine stability and control. Their product offering aligned to our customer demand which made this partnership a perfect fit.”
