As the year draws to it's end, we take the opportunity to look back over what has been a busy 12 Months for A&Y Equipment.
With much more coming in 2016 take sure you are following us on Twitter and Facebook to keep up to date with all the news, as well of course the website that is constantly evolving.
Happy New Year from everyone at A&Y!
The year began with news of a big change from Yanmar. The excavators would be having a colour change.
The cabs from green to black as well as the rams from yellow to black.
This change would not happen straight away but be gradually rolled out during the course of the year, aiming to be completely changed to the new design by December.
In February we made the annual trip to Coventry's Ricoh Arena for the Executive Hire Show. This year visitors were able to see two new 1.5 tonne mini excavators, the SV16 and SV18.
Improvements included two speed travel, a flow sharing hydraulic system, proportional control on the hammer circuit, more power with lower fuel consumption plus Yanmar's three year warranty.
A variety of other equipment from our ranges was also on display, making our stand a popular place for visitors.
A kit is available now that increases the width of Rammax 1575 Trench Rollers from
640 mm to 850 mm.
The extensions enable the same roller to fit into tight spaces yet also be adjusted to maximise productivity when such opportunities arise.
The articulated oscillating rollers will continue to be offered at widths of 640 mm and 850 mm. As of March 2015 the 640 mm version was able to extended to 850 mm with the use of this kit.
The production gained by utilising the extendable drum kit is significant. The extensions increase the roller width by nearly 33 percent.
April 17th saw the 60 000th Yanmar machine to come of the production line at the factory in Saint Dizier, France.
The machine in question was an SV18, part of the new SV series developed in 2014: short tail excavators in the weight category from 1,5 to 2 tonnes.

There was plenty of interest on the impressive A&Y stand at June's Plantworx show. Despite the weathers best efforts on day 1, thousands of people passed through the gates at Bruntingthorpe Proving ground and many took in the large variety of equipment on show from A&Y. Including: Cormidi tracked carriers, Ammann Compaction plates, tandem rollers, single drum rollers, Zero tail swing excavators, semi zero swing excavators and a Prinoth Panther tracked carrier.
Oh and who could forget YB25, the 40 year old excavator taking centre stage!
You can now increase dig depth by 9% with a ViO80 and SV100 as a Long arm option is now available.
This will give these machines yet more versatility as Dig reach, dig depth and maximum unloading height all increase with the long arm.
The B7 Sigma excavator with its triple articulated boom and a reach of 8250mm, whilst having complete rotation within the crawler width was nominated for an Innovation Award at the Demolition Expo in Reading.
The Sigma gained a lot of attention within the demolition industry and stood out as a highly viable Midi excavator with plenty of versatility.
2015 saw Ammann release an app for Apple and Android users.
This app is primarily dedicated as an online resource for service technicians, who are occupied with the maintenance of machinery developed and distributed by Ammann Group, but also is a great tool to have for anyone running or interested in Ammann Machinery.
The app provides access to manuals, videos and further media for the whole range of Ammann machinery and equipment.
Additionally, the app provides an internal scanner to read and process QR codes.
Mawsley Machinery, long term Yanmar dealers for us took on the full Ammann Compaction range in October.
Dealers for; Northamptonshire, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire. Mawsley pride themselves on having a valuable knowledge database and being trusted dealers of both new and used plant and construction equipment in the UK and worldwide.
In November we fitted a grapple to a ViO57 to be used for forestry work. The operator from HMC Forestry even proclaimed it was the ''best thing since sliced bread''
The ViO57 weighs 5325kg and is true zero tail swing (neither the counterweight nor front part of the upper frame exceed the crawler width), which offers extraordinary tight turning and the confidence to work effectively in narrow spaces.
Stability and exceptional lifting capacties are essential for this machine as it will often be working with the arm fully extended. Thanks to the combination of a wide counterweight,
asymmetric crawlers (system patented by Yanmar VICTAS®), and excellent weight
distribution, provide the ViO57U with just that.
Most recently the all terrain C50 tracked carrier has had both an internal and external upgrade.
In addition to new paint design and decals it now comes complete with the latest Tier 4i engine
The C50R-3C is ideal for use on: slopes, sand and soft and swampy areas.
The Cormidi C85 is a 810 mm wide, 800kg tracked carrier, complete with a high tip height of 1.5 meters and oscillating rocking rollers. This model was released in 2014 as improved version of the C80. Areas of improvement include; Engine, Electric System, Undercarriage, Hydraulic System, Design and Performance.
For example the C85 has a 15% larger skip capacity, 100mm more ground contact, 20% more speed and a reduction in vibration by 70% when compared to previous models.
As well as the standard skip on the Cormidi there is also the option to add on a number of attachments.
We recently had a C85 Hi tip with self loading shovel and concrete mixer attachment in the yard, other factory fitted options include crane and forks.
Some key aspects of this machine are outlined below, if you'd like more information on any of the Cormidi range then take a look at the specific page HERE or contact us.
The new generation of Ammann pneumatic tyred rollers has been developed on the basis of the latest findings about the compaction of bituminous asphalt layers and natural soils. The modern roller design provides 1 x 1 m visibility in front and behind.
What is it?
The Ammann Pneumatic Tyred Roller (PTR) is made up of a rigid frame with a front steering isostatic axle and rear drive axle. The AP240 PTR is in fact Ammann's most popular worldwide model.
The AP240 Pneumatic Tyre Roller is flexible in its design, and provides the possibility to choose different propulsion concepts, and also to choose different emission stages for the engines. The machine can be equipped with hydrostatic (Tier3 only) or hydromechanic propulsion, and with engines in stages, Tier 3 or Tier 4i.
The rollers are intended for medium and large-sized compaction works in transport construction (roads and motorways, railways, airfields) and building construction (industrial zones, etc.).
A wide range of additional weights can be implemented to optimise the ballasting of the 4 + 4 smooth tyres. A central tyre inflation system ensures correct tyre pressure during operation.
How Does it Work?
Simply put, the pneumatic roller kneads the hot mix asphalt, working each of the oscillating tires into the asphalt mat. Not only does this achieve denser compaction, but it also drives the bigger aggregate in the mix down, and brings the fine aggregate to the top, actually sealing the asphalt better to eliminate voids and preventing water intrusion. Hence why its often described in terms of kneading dough.
Many contractors use PTR's as the kneading effect also brings the oil up to the surface. It gives it that really nice, rich, black finish, which is what many like to see.
Fields of Application
We have a range of hydraulic hammers which meet the most demanding tasks, whilst still providing customers a value for money choice.
Our breakers, the AMB range, meet international standards thanks to the eco-friendly silenced design and are manufactured to handle the full range of demolition projects. Making them well suited to work in noise sensitive areas, whilst still offering maximal productivity.
Some of you may have noticed earlier via our Twitter page that we have taken stock of the Yanmar C50R-3C tracked carrier with it's brand new design. In line with the Yanmar colour changes to cabbed excavators you will notice a new black cab along with updated decals.
The Yanmar C50R-3C is an all-terrain carrier especially efficient under extreme conditions where ordinary trucks cannot operate. The C50R-3C is ideal for use on: slopes, sand and soft and swampy areas.
We've condensed a some of the machines highlights below, you can find out more by viewing the Tracked Carrier Page and downloading the PDF Brochure.
The Yanmar line up of true zero tailswing excavators (ViO range) consists of seven models ranging from 1220 kg to 8065 kg.
These machines come equipped with an innovative, powerful and progressive 3 Pump hydraulic system, known as VIPPS, fitted with; a variable-flow dual piston pump, a gear pump and a multiple combination directional control valve.
This technology is unique to the Yanmar brand, with the hydraulic circuitry design and load sensing pumps offering increased performance when utilising the boom, arm bucket and swing features. Key aspects to this improved performance include stability and lifting capacity.
As well as improved productivity and performance the VIPPS system offers users the ability to increase working speed, due to the cumulative capacity of the pumps, whilst also providing smooth and simultaneous operation of all the excavators’ features, even when travelling.
The ViO range of mini excavators have another innovative feature that gives stability without the need for expanding undercarriage. This feature is called ViO Crawler Technology for Advanced Stability (VICTAS). By utilising Yanmar’s unique off-set track configuration, VICTAS provides advanced stability, as well as a decrease in vibration due to the rubber crawlers, both of which lead to less ground damage.
Operator safety is gaining greater importance as a decisive purchasing factor. Despite high technical safety standards, there are still many hazardous areas in compaction work, particularly in excavation and canal construction.
Ammann has developed a machine that is an ideal problem-solver for these types of site: the remote-controlled vibratory plate APH 1000 TC.
It is powerful and very compact plate thanks to a high-performance, horizontal Hatz Supra 1 D 90 V diesel engine. The machine achieves excellent compaction results even in deep trenches and virtually impassable areas, with the operator controlling the machine from a safe location by either infrared or cable remote control. This also overcomes another big issue with compaction and in particularly plates, hand arm vibration. As the 1000 TC is controlled remotely it is hand arm vibration free
Other benefits of the APH1000 TC are as follows:
PRINOTH has a tracked vehicle for all aspects of the construction job. Through difficult terrain and the harshest weather conditions, PRINOTH allows access to construction sites year round and offers the most efficient and economical vehicle in the construction market.
Because of their low ground pressure (maximum 0.31 kg/cm2 - 4.4 lb/psi), even at maximum payload, these carrier crawlers can facilitate earth moving, articulated crane delivery, and equipment and materials transport in areas inaccessible by truck.
With maximum payloads ranging from 5,450 kg (12,000 lb) to 20,865 kg (46,000 lb) the PRINOTH crawler carriers can be equipped with a variety of implements, suited to all manner of fields including; mining, forestry and telecommunications work. Below are just some of the available additions, making this already impressive tracked carrier the machine for many jobs.
